TO GATHER: HIGH CONTRAST OF FEELINGS

The tension of gravity & Metal as a material

In this project, each group explored how an “action” -in our case, to gather- could be orchestrated for a temporary pavilion. When there is no architect to explain the theories of its design, anyone who occupies the space of this pavilion should naturally and instinctively perform the action we are suggesting. After a design proposal once again, each group was tasked to apply a given material to their concept. It was important to us to maintain our conceptual loyalty to the original pavilion, whilst still being able to let go completely of its shape. The material of metal sheets meant, that for an elevated pavilion, a completely new structural skeleton had to be invented. By examining how gravity, weight, and the interplay between enclosure and openness shape visitors’ sense of comfort, we aimed to create a space that engenders feelings…
